A. Preparatory actions

A.1. Bibliographic search

All the information collected in this task will feed Implementation actions and also Communication and dissemination actions as the outcomes will also feed BIOREG’s Website in order to make it a reference for what refers to the leaching procedures in biocidal product types 07 (film preservatives) and 10 (masonry preservatives).

A.2. Current situation of the analysis methodology

Considering that the rate of generated information is very big, during this action all the information gathered in action A1 will be examined in order to determine the updated state of the art.

 

B. Implementation actions

B.1. Methodology development and semi-field tests

With the information gathered in preparatory actions and with the expertise of consortium members the semi-field testing methodology will be developed and the tests will be performed.

B.2. Methodology development and laboratory tests

With the information gathered in preparatory actions and with the expertise of consortium members the laboratory testing methodology will be chosen and the tests will be performed.

B.3. Correlation between laboratory and semi-field tests

During this action the influence of the parameters studied in action B1 and B2 will be examined.

B.4. Pre-standardization activities

In this action AENOR, as Spanish National Standards Body, will perform an analysis of the actual standardization capabilities of the outcomes of the project, scanning the standardization environment and proposing how to best progress a future standardization activity.

B.5. Ecotoxicity studies

Within this action, the ecotoxicicity or toxicity on biotic systems of different products and samples will be evaluated, in aquatic and in terrestrial organisms.

B.6. Influence in the ecotoxicity of the use of pure product or leachates

In the action, the results of the previous action B5 will be examined. The objective of this action is to determine the influence in the ecotoxicity of the use of pure product or leachate.

B.7. Risk evaluation

Using the relevant data, a predicted environmental concentration (PEC) and a predicted no effect concentration (PNEC) for each environmental compartment are assessed. If the PEC exceeds the PNEC, there is considered to be risk of environmental damage in proportion to the ratio of PEC to PNEC. This approach is the one most favoured at present but, in spite of being developed in great detail, especially by the European Commission, it is somewhat simplistic and further development to take better account of ecosystem complexity is to be expected. For the purpose of this project, unless there are legislative changes risk assessment will be performed with the classical approach.

 

 

C. Monitoring of the impact of the project actions

C.1. Actions B1-B4 analysis and assessment

Action C1 is planned to monitoring the impact of the Actions B1 to B4. The objective is the comparison of obtained data with data from other sources, and technical knowledge to validate that the methodologies developed are adequate to meet the requirements

C.2. Actions B4-B7 analysis and assessment with action C1. Future actions

Action C2 is planned to monitor the impact of the whole project and the fit for purpose of the methodologies and results obtained. Considering that the final objective is to provide regulatory authorities and industry with methodologies to determine the release of biocidal products and to perform the risk assessment, the results will be examined against actual legislation.

C.3. Evaluation of socio-economic impact on the local economy and population

The main objective of this task consists on the technical and economic analysis of BIOREG considering the outcomes obtained from the demonstration experiences. Then, an evaluation of the impact of the implementation of the project in the local economy and population will be performed. 

 

 

D. Communication and dissemination actions

D.1. Diffusion tasks

During this task the following actions will be performed for the diffusion of the project: web tool, plan for project dissemination, workshops, Layman's report and dissemination materials

D.2. After LIFE Communication Plan

Once finalized the project, it will continue working on the dissemination of the project through the project webpage, conferences and dissemination materials, networking with other projects and industrial stakeholders and the standardization of developed methodologies.

 

 

E. Project management and monitoring of the project progress

E.1. Project management

TECNALIA will be the General Coordinator of the project. Implemented management strategy aims at ensuring the best possible conditions for the success of the project. Primary goal is to ensure the timely achievement of committed technical objectives implementing corrective measures in case of deviation. Project management will also act as means for consortium communication and aggregation which will increase each partner’s awareness of cohesion and shared objectives.
